Les Amis de Laprak (translated as "Friends of Laprak") was established in 1999 (www.amis-de-laprak.com). It is a French organization with local correspondents in Nepal. Its principal goal is to help children attend school in the Laprak village and surroundings (a remote area of the Himalayas, south of the Manaslu range in Nepal). Les Amis de Laprak main actions are helping build schools, hiring new teachers and buying school equipment.
Pierre Oftinger is an IT project manager working in Luxembourg. After ten stays in Nepal, he considers the country as his "second home". He met some of Les Amis de Laprak members in Kathmandu in 2012. During the terrible 2015 earthquake, Laprak village was 90% destroyed (including the school). Pierre was deeply grieved and decided to become an active contributor of the organization.
His main project has been the writing of a book collecting the stories of the earthquake witnesses. All the profits from the sale of the books are sent to Les Amis de Laprak to help them rebuild the school infrastructure.
